Permanent appliances

Permanent appliances are devices which during the treatment are permanently cemented to the teeth.
In our clinic a range of fixed appliances is used, from ones that operate on the bone, to those which work on the teeth (i.e. locks). The choice of appliance depends on the treatment plan. Permanent appliance (locks) may be conventional or self-ligating. Conventional one consists of locks to which an orthodontic wire is mounted by so-called ligatures (coloured rubber or thin metal ligatures).
Self-ligating appliance is a device in which an orthodontic wire is fixed to the individual locks without the usage of ligatures. The wire is held by a proper construction of the lock.
